The best electric screwdrivers of 2025: Expert tested and reviewed

The holidays are on the horizon, and everyone can appreciate a good screwdriver to keep in the toolbox. Electric screwdrivers have been a total game-changer for me. They offer enhanced control and precision, significantly reducing the risk of damaging fasteners or the materials you're working on. And because they're packed with features such as adjustable torque settings and built-in LED lights, they make tasks easier and more accurate.

Over the past year or so, I've been taking a deep, geeky dive into the world of electric screwdrivers, testing some top contenders with real-world challenges to see which ones truly perform under pressure. I checked out their power, endurance, durability, and bang for your buck. I've put dozens of them through their paces, with a lot of screwing and unscrewing, to not just find the best of the best, but also see if they can last the test of time.

What is the best electric screwdriver right now?

After quite a bit of deliberation, my crown for the best electric screwdriver overall goes to the Lifegoo Mini Electric Screwdriver. This little dynamo really impressed with its long-lasting battery and the convenience of being pocket-sized and USB-C rechargeable. It might not pack the heaviest punch, but for practicality and frequent use, it can't be beat. And right now, there's 25% off at Amazon, making this a totally unbeatable deal.

If you need something with a bit more "oomph," then the Hoto is a good choice. This one has more power in a chunkier package, making it a great choice for those wanting a general purpose electric screwdriver.

Why we like it: The Lifegoo Mini Electric Screwdriver really stands out due to its compact and lightweight design, making it a champion for tight and tricky spaces.

It offers a reasonable torque range of 0.25-0.35Nm, which is gentle enough to secure fasteners snugly without risking damage by over-tightening. For those moments when a bit more muscle is needed, this nifty tool allows you to manually increase the torque up to 3Nm, giving you that perfect "hand tight" force without crossing into the danger zone of causing damage.

As a bonus, the Lifegoo Mini comes equipped with a versatile 48-piece precision bit set. This set includes both standard and extra-long bits, the latter being ideal for reaching those challenging, deeply recessed screws. This feature-packed screwdriver offers both versatility and precision, making it a stellar addition to any toolkit.

Who it's for: I use this screwdriver several times a week on a variety of tasks, from jobs where this is the perfect tool for the job, to jobs where ideally, I'd have gone for a bigger screwdriver, but this is the one that was close to hand, and it's just kept on working. But its strong point is as a precision screwdriver.

Who should look elsewhere: If you don't need a precision screwdriver, then something like the Hoto or Bosch will be a much better choice as these are heavier duty and have a bigger battery.

Pros
  • Great precision

  • Long battery life
Cons
  • Can't charge screwdriver in the case
  • Don't drop the case on the floor as the bits will go everywhere

Why we like it: Here's one of my hardest working tools. The Hoto electric screwdriver exudes a robust, heavy-duty vibe that promises durability and efficiency. At one end, you'll find a standard 1/4-inch socket ready to accommodate a variety of bits. Just behind this is a user-friendly rotary knob, which toggles between three distinct torque settings, allowing for precision control depending on your task.

Enhancing its functionality, this screwdriver includes a circular LED shadowless lamp. This brilliant feature illuminates your work area, freeing you from the hassle of juggling a screwdriver and a flashlight simultaneously -- a small but significant touch that makes a big difference in usability.

On the opposite end lies a USB-C port, modernizing the charging process by eliminating the need for proprietary chargers. This universal charging port adds an extra layer of convenience, making it easy to power up the screwdriver with the same cable used for many of your other devices. The Hoto electric screwdriver is a thoughtfully designed tool that marries strength with smart features, making it a standout choice for any toolbox.

Who it's for: This is a heavier duty electric screwdriver, not quite the rough and tough of the Bosch screwdriver but ideal for those who need something to assemble flat packed furniture or do DIY around the house.

Who should look elsewhere: This is a great general-purpose, but if you want a precision-only screwdriver, or you are a tradesperson and need a pro-grade tool, there are better screwdrivers to choose.

Pros
  • Amazing power output
  • USB-C charging
  • Can drive 1,000 on a single charge
Cons

Why we like it: One of my all-time favorite electric screwdrivers is Hoto's 12-in-1, a tool that I reviewed about a year ago. I've also owned for a couple of years now. It's turned out to be great tool that has been able to withstand the test of time.

This is why I was more than happy to test the Hoto 3 Pack Snapbloq Modular Storage System. This kit consists of three separate parts. One kit comes with a precision electronic screwdriver and a set of bits. Another kit comes with a mini-sized rotary tool and a selection of grinding and polishing tools. The third kit comes with a three-speed mini drill pen and a selection of high-speed steel drill bits.

Review: Hoto 3 Pack Snapbloq Modular Storage System

All the bits come in stackable boxes for easy storage and transportations without losing something important.

This is a great kit for those looking for a selection of tools to tackle a wide variety of tasks -- from the basics like fixing and undoing fasteners to more specialist tasks such as polishing, grinding and drilling.

Who it's for: This is a great kit for creatives. Maybe someone making jewelry, or even someone who does a lot of 3D printing. Everything in this kit is of the highest quality and is built to last. This isn't a cheap setup, but it's definitely worth the money.

Who should look elsewhere: Not everyone needs a kit of this quality and can get away with spending a lot less of something more modest.

Why we like it: Bottom line, it's cheap and it's good. I bought this for fun and ended up being very impressed by it. The screwdriver looks like an old-timey gadget, but it packs a 900 mAh battery that's rechargeable using USB-C. The motor is capable of an impressive 3.0 Nm of electric torque, which is a little bit more than what is considered hand-tight. The unit can withstand up to 10 Nm of manual force, which is about the maximum that you can achieve with a screwdriver.

Review: XLX 4.2V cordless screwdriver

If this were my primary tool, I'd replace the screwdriver bits with better ones, but they do the trick. For someone starting out, with a bit of flat-packed furniture to put together, or a seasoned DIYer looking for a cheap tool to use and abuse, it's an ideal choice.

Who it's for: Someone looking for a budget tool that's not going to fall apart the first time it's used.

Who should look elsewhere: A professional or someone who uses a lot. Although, that said, this would make a great backup or spare.

XLX 4.2V electric screwdriver tech specs: Rotation speed: 245 rev/minBattery type: 4.2V 900mAh lithium battery | Torque: 3Nm electric/10Nm manual

Pros
  • Cheap.
  • Very ergonomic shape.
  • Excellent battery life
Cons
  • LED only comes on when the tool is running.

The kit comes with almost everything else a tinkerer would need, an impressive 160 bits in various types including Torx, hex, Phillips, slotted, pentalobe, socket, triangle, tri-wing, U-type, and square. The comprehensive selection covers nearly every security fastener you'll encounter.

To make your repair jobs even easier, the kit also includes plastic prybars, picks, a suction cup for removing displays off smartphones, tweezers, and bit adapters. Everything is neatly packaged in a folding polymer case that securely holds the screwdriver, bits, and tools.

Review:

The screwdriver itself is designed for total convenience, featuring a built-in 500mAh lithium battery that provides 120 minutes of runtime at full power. This is enough to tighten or loosen over 1,000 screws. It also offers three torque settings: 0.16Nm, 0.20Nm, and 0.30Nm. If these aren't enough to break a fastener free, you can always use the screwdriver like an old-school manual tool.

Who it's for: This is a great starter kit for those wanting a complete starter kit for gadget repair. Not only does it come with a screwdriver and bits, but there's a selection of other tools that are needed for pulling apart things like smartphones and tablets.

Who should look elsewhere: There are smaller and cheaper kits available for those that aren't looking for a set specifically for gadget repair.

DuroFort 8V Cordless Screwdriver

Best affordable screwdriver

3.2 / 5 Score

Why we like it: After a thorough search, I've discovered a few budget-friendly electric screwdrivers that won't break the bank and don't compromise on quality. The DuroFort 8V cordless screwdriver is one such example. This tool is an ideal all-rounder, equipped with a motor and a 10-speed gearbox and can put out 5.5Nm of electric torque and 10Nm of manual torque with a no-load speed of 320 RPM.

It's robust enough to tackle a variety of tasks, whether at home, in the workshop, or around the office. It boasts an impressive capacity, capable of driving up to 300 screws on a single charge, ensuring you can complete even lengthy projects without interruption.

The screwdriver comes with an extensive 89-bit selection, catering to a wide range of screw types and sizes. Additionally, it includes a nut adapter and a flexible shaft, perfect for reaching those awkward, hard-to-access spots.

Who it's for: This is the perfect tool for the occasional DIYer or even a professional who wants a spare screwdriver that's going to get roughed about. This is cheap enough to have a couple in the toolbox of truck bed for jobs. It also makes a great gift for those starting out.

Who should look elsewhere: This is an occasional use tool. It's not something I'd want to use day in and day out unless I just considered it disposable. It's also quite chunky, making it inconvenient to use in confined spaces.

Why we like it: Two years ago, I got myself a Bosch Go electric screwdriver and thing was amazing. It's been on my best electric screwdrivers list ever since, and it's been working incredibly hard on countless projects, indoors and outdoors, and it's still going strong.

The old Bosch Go has gone to a new home, and I've picked up a replacement -- the new, upgraded Bosch Go 3. It's become my new favorite when I need power.

Review: Bosch Go 3

First up, the micro-USB has been replaced with USB-C. I don't know about you, but micro-USB has been out of my life for a long time, and keeping track of a cable for one thing still stuck in the past was a pain.  There's also a bigger battery, up to 2.0Ah from 1.5Ah, which is quite a bump. I appreciate this when I've got a long job or forgotten to put it on charge after the last job.

There's also a ring light on the front of the screwdriver for seeing what you're doing, and more torque settings, providing finer control over working with fasteners and less chance of breaking something or rounding off the head of a screw.

It also features better ergonomics, and a much neater, more practical carry case.

Who it's for: This is a professional's tool, designed for daily, hard use. Or it's the tool for those who just like good tools.

Who should look elsewhere: It's big, bulky, and expensive. It's definitely not for those looking for a precision screwdriver.

Bosch Go 3 screwdriver tech specs: Rotation speed: 360 rev/minBattery type: 3.6V 2,000mAh lithium battery | Torque: 2.5~5.0Nm electric

Quality 10 Durability 10 Power settings 8 Ergonomics 8 Battery life 10
Pros
  • All the power you could need
  • Very ergonomic handle
  • Lots of built-in safety features
Cons
  • A bit bulky for some jobs

Why we like it: The DeWalt 20V Max XR impact driver is a powerhouse in the realm of heavy-duty electric screwdrivers, designed to handle the most demanding tasks with ease.

This tool stands out with its impact drive feature, which does more than just turn fasteners. Instead, it delivers a powerful, rattling force that can break stubborn fasteners loose, making it significantly more powerful than a standard screwdriver. This capability makes it ideal for a variety of applications, from driving screws to tackling nuts and bolts. It's so robust, I've even successfully used it to undo car wheel nuts.

Equipped with a three-speed impact driver, this tool features a high-efficiency brushless motor that can deliver up to 1,825 in-lbs of maximum torque, which is more than enough to drive long, large-diameter screws with ease. For added convenience, the DeWalt 20V Max XR also includes built-in LEDs to brighten up dim workspaces, ensuring precision even in poorly lit conditions.

Who it's for: If you already have DeWalt tools and batteries, going with this is a no-brainer. If you're starting out on your tool journey, DeWalt is a good brand to go for.

Who should look elsewhere: Already own tools from a competing brand, such as Milwaukee or Black & Decker? Doesn't make sense to mix power tools because you're doubling up on batteries and chargers.

DeWalt 20V Max XR impact driver tech specs: Rotation speed: 3250 rev/minBattery type: 20V, from 1.5Ah to 5Ah lithium battery | Torque: up to 190Nm

Pros
  • Perfect for heavy-duty work
  • Great for screws and nuts/bolts
Cons
  • Big and chunky
